MY EXPERIENCE AT THE KARATE NATIONALS
On the 9th, 10th and 11th of November 2018, I participated in a Shotokan National Karate Championship in Khudiram Anushilan Kendra, near Indoor Stadium in Kolkata.
The first day there was a seminar in which we got training by the Indian Chief Shivan Shiv Panchal. The second day the tournament began. Participants from West Bengal, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and many more states were present. At first we had the Kata or Application Competition. After waiting for a long time my turn came. We were divided in groups of eight members. I was a bit tensed about the Haryana players. They were very strong, but, with immense effort and concentration I won two matches and qualified for the finals. My competition was with a boy named Mainak. He was from the same club as I am. I lost to him and was able to bag the silver medal.
Next we had the Kumite or Fight Round. In this we were divided into groups of sixteen. I won the first match by three points. However, I lost in the second round to the Haryana boy. He won by six points. I got medal in this and returned home empty- handed.
On the third day, there was only one competition of the team Kata. I was the leader of my team. My team consisted of Swastik Majumdar (Orange Belt), Srijan Mitra (Blue Belt) and Myself Arkadeep Nag (Purple Belt). There were five teams. We won the first match but lost the second. We got a Bronze medal each.
Thus, I won a silver medal and a Bronze medal at the National Level.
When I produced my medals in my school, DPS north Kolkata, my name was announced in the morning assembly and my friends congratulated me. I felt very happy again.
