H.P LOHIA DEBATE COMPETITION
The reputed H.P Lohia debate was held on Thursday 1st August in Gyan Manch. I, Akash Sarkar XI A and Anurag Chowdhuri XI B participated in the event from our school.
The competition was hosted by Abhinav Bharti High School. A week before the competition the topics were given. Initially, we were given three topics to prepare. Our teacher Mekhla ma’am helped me a lot with the content. Anurag had been the most cooperative and fun debating partner too. The practice sessions were mostly all about brainstorming, noting down points, discussing and ultimately creating stronger arguments. Our Principal ma’am had been very supportive too.
On the day of the competition, our school was given the topic ‘What India thinks today Bengal thinks tomorrow’ through a lottery system. A total number of fifteen schools with two speakers from each school participated in the competition. All the speakers came up with very different arguments and each speech seemed to add a new dimension to the debate. Every speech was followed by a rebuttal session. The entire day was enriching and even though we could not win any prize, we were motivated to continue debating and researching on various topics.

INTER- SCHOOL QUIZ COMPETITION (HUB OF LEARNING INITIATIVE)
A quiz competition tests our knowledge and improves our intellect. Quiz competitions spread euphoria and excitement among the students. The anticipation of the question, the thrill of knowing the answer and the feeling of triumph when it is declared the correct one makes quiz very exciting.
On 31st July 2019, we (Swapnendu Chatterjee, Kaustuv Kundu and Bibek Pal) went to Indus Valley World School to attend an Inter-school Quiz Competition. The competition was conducted in the auditorium of Indus Valley World School in which 6 teams, each comprising 3 fervent participants, gave tough competition to each other. The rules and regulations were explained in the beginning. The quiz competition consisted of 6 rounds with questions based on ‘flags’, ‘food and its origin’, ‘historical significance of monuments’, ‘Harry Potter’, ‘language and literature’ and ‘religion’. The quiz master awakened our curiosity through the challenging questions that he hurled at us. All the teams showcased their brilliance by rapidly answering the questions. Though some of the questions were very tricky, we did not hesitate to answer them. With each round, our confidence soared high. We aced the ‘Food and its origin’ round by answering some of the most baffling questions. We were exhilarated to hear the thundering applause of the audience and the other teams. We were leading at first, but failed to secure the first position by falling short of just fifteen points. The results did not dampen our spirits; it was the experience that enriched us and made us feel like winners. We secured the second position and were lauded with a certificate. We congratulated the other teams and after a cordial embrace, we left the stage. We walked out of the auditorium with triumphant jubilance, ready to take on the next challenge with greater zeal and knowledge.
We would heartily thank our Principal Ma’am and Coordinator Ma’am for believing in our abilities and giving us a chance to participate in such an incredible competition where we could explore our potential in the truest sense.
